Howdy Notebooker!

Ever stared at one of your pages and wondered: why isn't this showing up in AI Overviews?

Here's a process I use all the time. It takes 5-10 minutes, requires minimal technical skills, and it tells you exactly what Google's AI Overview is covering that your page is missing.

Think of it like this: the AI Overview is Google telling you what it considers the "complete answer" for a keyword. If your page doesn't cover those same angles, you've got content gaps. And gaps = missed opportunities.

You need two tools: DataForSEO to pull the AI Overview and Firecrawl to scrape your page. Let me show you how.

What You'll Need

Four things:

  1. A Claude.ai account with the DataForSEO MCP connected (see my setup guide). DataForSEO's SERP API returns AI Overview content as structured data — the full text, cited sources, and even tables or videos when present. No screenshots, no browser sessions. Just clean, parseable data.
  2. The **Firecrawl connector** enabled in Claude (you get 500 scrapes for free). Firecrawl handles scraping your page's content as clean markdown. To enable it, go to your Claude settings, find the Connectors or Integrations section, and turn on Firecrawl.
  3. A keyword that triggers an AI Overview on Google (not all do, so check first, you can find AIOs in Ahrefs.)
  4. The URL of the page you want to compare against the AIO

So to recap: DataForSEO pulls the AI Overview content directly from Google's SERP (with full region control). Firecrawl scrapes your page's content cleanly. Two tools, one prompt, zero manual copy-pasting.

When to Use This

This works great when you're refreshing old content and want to know what angles to add, when you're trying to figure out why a competitor is getting AIO citations and you're not, or when a client asks "what should we improve on this page?" and you want a data-backed answer in minutes.
