What is DataForSEO (and Why Should You Care)?

Think of DataForSEO as the wholesale warehouse of SEO data.

Tools like Semrush and Ahrefs are like retail stores — polished dashboards, nice packaging, premium price tags. DataForSEO sells you the same raw ingredients (keyword volumes, SERP data, backlink profiles) at a fraction of the cost because you skip the fancy storefront.

The tradeoff? There's no drag-and-drop dashboard. You interact with it through an API (a way for software to talk to other software). But here's the good news: with Claude and MCP, you can talk to DataForSEO in plain English and get back the exact same data.

If you book a Power 25 call with Steve Toth you will get a step-by-step guide for how to setup a Claude project to grant company wide access to a Claude Project that calls the DataForSEO API. Comparatively, this is easier to maintain than everyone on your team following the steps below 👇 (I'm also working on a guide to deploy MCP via the cloud so everyone in your organization can have access to the same MCPs, stay tuned)!

Step 2: Find Your API Credentials

This is the most important part, and where most people get tripped up. DataForSEO gives you two sets of credentials:
