Today's note is about the handful of one-tap links that turn casual readers into actual followers, because the follow button you're relying on is leaking audience every single day. One of these links even decides whether Google shows you inside AI Overviews and AI Mode, and I built a free prompt that generates all of them for you in seconds.

Google Preferred Sources (AI Overviews + AI Mode)

You probably saw Darren Shaw’s post on how to create a “preferred sources” link so you can become a preferred source in Google Search.

This is a per-user personalization signal, not a "rank #1" hack. It only changes what people who have already added you see, so it does nothing for strangers but compounds beautifully with an existing audience.

• Live in AI Overviews, AI Mode, Top Stories, and developing-topic carousels since May 27, 2026. Your selected sites show a "Preferred" badge wherever they appear.
• Google says people are about 2x more likely to click a preferred source.
• Works at the domain or subdomain level only. Subdirectories cannot be isolated.
• One catch: the deeplink pre-fill has been buggy at times. Test yours before promoting it.

Where to place it: newsletter footer, post-subscribe confirmation page, blog post footers, and next to your social CTAs. Google also offers downloadable badge button assets.
